We at UMOYA music & cultural safaris are thrilled to announce the Dan Levenson Banjo & Fiddle Old Time safari!

Join acclaimed Old time musician Dan Levenson, on his exclusive 9 day music and cultural safari in Mpumalanga, South Africa!

You will enjoy a full South African safari tour where you will experience and interact with South African wildlife, nature and culture, all while staying in our handpicked accommodations, partaking in informative and practical Banjo & Fiddle workshop sessions and sitting in on interactive jamming sessions.

Come and learn about South African culture, take in the endless vistas at the Leopard lodge in the shade of the African thorn trees overlooking the majestic Hartebeespoort dam whilst we relish in a traditional South African Maskandi music performance.

Highlights of the tour include: the Elephant encounter, where we will get to feed, touch and interact with protected orphaned Elephants; the scenic Panorama route day tour to the Blyde river canyon(The third biggest Canyon in the world, and the biggest ‘ Green’ Canyon in the world); safari drives and guided bush walks in the iconic Kruger National park; and 9 full days of being immersed in music and jamming with Dan Levenson in the African bush.

This Dan Levenson Old time safari is an event for music-lovers of all ages, levels, interests, and tastes! Whether you are a non-musician or an experienced player, a beginner, or just an enthusiastic fan, our ten day program offers activities and workshops for you.

Our environment is non-competitive and strictly about immersing oneself in the joys of music, learning, sharing and our lovely surroundings!

All of these music, cultural, nature and wildlife interactions, an al fresco ‘bush performance’ by Dan Levenson and the added bonus of jamming alongside Dan in the heart of one of the most beautiful settings in Africa will make this an unforgettable, once in a lifetime Music and Cultural Safari experience.

DESCRIPTION

On this music and cultural safari we will head East to the magical province of Mpumalanga – which means:’ Place of the rising sun’. Mpumalanga is a scenic paradise and it is South Africa’s quintessential safari destination and home of the iconic Kruger National Park which is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It is also home to the Blyde River Canyon and numerous breathtaking waterfalls and ancient archaeological sites dating back 1.7 million years.

Day one will start with a visit to the magical Leopard Lodge with it’s breathtaking views of the Hartebeespoort dam where we will enjoy a South African lunch and traditional Zulu maskansi music performances and interactive drumming sessions. For our first night we will be staying at the Lesedi cultural village which is situated within the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site. There we will enjoy a presentation and tour of the various South Africa tribes topped off by an exhilarating traditional song and dance performance.

We then travel East to Hazyview, where we will spend four nights at the tranquil Africamps at Mackers where we will stay in boutique glamping tents in a lush forest and natural oasis situated on the banks of the Sabie River. During our time at Africamps we will explore the wider Mpumaplanga region and enjoy an Elephant encounter, Panorama route day tour and a Tipfuxeni youth choir visit for a traditional South African Capella performance and jam with the musicians in their village. We will take our instruments along for all of these excursions and pick around the fire at night after having dined on a traditional South African BBQ.

We will then head to the Skukuza safari lodge in the Kruger National park for the last four days where we will immerse ourselves in the tranquility, peace and quiet of the African bush, 2x daily safari drives, Banjo & Fiddle workshop sessions, nature walks, starlit interactive jam sessions around the fire and bush performances by Dan Levenson under African skies.

Itinerary

Day 1: South African music and dance performances. Evening at Lesedi cultural village.

Day 2-5: Breakfast at Lesedi and depart for Africamps, Mpumalanga. Elephant encounter. Panorama route day tour, Youth choir village visit, and jamming around the fire.

Day 6-9: On day 6 we depart for Skukuza safari lodge for our wildlife immersion in the Kruger National Park. Daily safari drives, guided nature walks, daily Banjo & Fiddle workshop sessions, jamming and concerts.

Day 10: Breakfast, check out and departure at 09:00 am.
